The beginning of any manuscript sets up the armature that will support the rest of the story. Think of it as the spinal cord of a body; without it, you could not stand. These first pages set the tone and rhythm, establish your main characters, and explain the stakes. Many of the main problems with a manuscript can be diagnosed by evaluating these early pages. In this edit, I will comb over your first fifty pages to analyze how the piece is or is not working and provide suggestions for improvement. You will receive feedback in the form of an editorial letter and will have a chance to discuss any questions you might have during a thirty-minute Zoom call.

This edit is for someone with a full manuscript that may have already gone through an initial edit. I will study your entire manuscript and provide a detailed critique of the overall state of the text, examining what is working and what may need to be revised or restructured. This edit will not include line edits, but in areas where I think I can help you shine up a sentence, I will leave suggestions in the margins of the document. I will provide a detailed editorial letter with my findings and suggestions, as well as an annotated word document. After you’ve had time to digest this note, we will schedule a one-hour Zoom call to discuss any questions you may have and to help you develop a strategy for revisions.
